What to Do when your Gas Boiler is Not Firing

Beautiful Girl Is Seting Up a Boiler

There are many, many possible reasons behing a boiler breakdown. And if your gas boiler is not firing, you’re going to want to find out why as soon as possible! We often don’t realise how much

we rely on our central heating until it isn’t working any more, so we have provided you with this troubleshooting list to help get you up and running as quickly as possible!

Check the gas supply

The first thing to check is your gas supply. If you have any other gas appliances, such as a gas fire or a hob, switch them on to see if they’re still working. You can also check that the mains gas

supply tap hasn’t been accidentally switched off. If not, check with your gas supplier if there are any current problems in your area – this can often be done online.

Check the electricity supply/Reset

If the gas supply is okay but your gas boiler is not firing still, the next thing to do is to check the electricity supply (you’d be surprised how easy it is to switch this off by accident), and try resetting

it. There is usually an easily located and clearly marked reset button on the front control panel, but if you can’t find this, simply switching the boiler off and on again will recalibrate it and hopefully
get it going again.

Check the water pressure

If you still haven’t had any luck, check the pressure gauge. If the pressure drops below a certain point – usually 1 (and it will usually be marked in red) – the boiler won’t work. You can remedy

this by slowly refilling it, following the instructions in the manual or from your boiler manufacturers helpline. This should get your boiler firing again, but you will need to seek professional advice at some point. All boilers need refilling occasionally, but if this is happening on a regular basis it is a sign of a fault, and should be investigated as soon as possible.
