Gas Board

Gas board is often the term used when referring to British Gas or its national/regional equivalent. In post world war two Britain the gas industry was nationalised and all gas companies were combined to form twelve Area Gas Boards. Each board was a separate entity with its own management. The Gas Board’s official title will depend on who supplies your gas but is the colloquial term used by a great deal of people to describe their supplier. In the UK, British Gas is the largest gas company, providing gas to the most people in England, Scotland and Wales. In Ireland Bord Gais is one of the leading energy suppliers as well as maintaining all the gas networks for all the suppliers.
